Scandinavian Christmas Bread – Jule Kage Recipe

Ingredients:
1 c. milk
1 c.
water
1/2 c.
butter or margarine
1 c.
sugar
Heat water, margarine and sugar until
dissolved. Add cold milk to make
lukewarm mixture. 2 pkgs. yeast
1/4 c.
warm water
1 tsp.
sugar
Dissolve yeast in water and sugar. 2 eggs
1 tsp.
cardamon
1/2
tsp. cinnamon
1/2
tsp. nutmeg
7 c. all
purpose flour
1 c.
raisins
1 c.
candied cherries or candied
fruit (optional)

Directions:
Add yeast and eggs to warm liquid, whipping lightly. Add sifted flour, spices and fruit to make a soft dough. Knead in bowl until smooth. Let rise until double. Shape into two loaves. Slash. Place in greased and floured pans. Let rise. Bake at 350 degrees until light brown. Brush with butter. For Cinnamon bread: roll dough thin. Spread with melted margarine, cinnamon and sugar. Roll up and shape into a loaf. Slash. Let rise and bake.
